Great Mysteries

Humans have always been intrigued by the unexplained, and the purpose of Great Mysteries: Riddles of the Natural and Human World is to fan the readers’curiosity, fuel their imaginations and guide them back to myths, legends, folk tales and fairy stories; to the fantastic and bizarre. Everything that we accept as part of our lives started out as a fantasy or mystery. No matter how many former mysteries are solved by scientific methods, modern technology or the sheer persistence of detectives and researchers, there will always be endless opportunities to ponder, speculate, philosophise and argue about things that remain unexplained, hidden and puzzling.

The riddles of the natural and human world included in this book have been divided into ten categories: the incomprehensible universe; mysteries of the natural world; the amazing human mind; strange deaths and disappearances; puzzling maritime and aviation events; unusual artefacts and hoaxes; sacred numbers, symbols and sites; miracles, visions and prophecies; secret societies and strange folklore.

This book also looks at those who have tried to solve these mysteries by embarking on adventurous travels, researching in libraries and laboratories. scanning the skies, listening for messages from the Cosmos, or seeking answers to the deeper mysteries of life by meditating or communing with God or some other supernatural force.

When looking at the unexplained, we need to keep an open mind because some mysteries are manufactured for a particular agenda: a practical joke, egoism, professional jealously, to promote a conspiracy theory, or even perhaps to sell a book. Other so-called mysteries are delusional beliefs.
However, as Carl Jung said, the irrational nature of life had taught him never to discard anything even when it appeared to go against all theories or had no immediate explanation.

What a boring world it would be without mysteries.
